What the Blog

When I think of summer I think of the smell of fresh cut grass, baseball, eating dinner on the patio, and sunshine!  And, with that in mind came my inspiration for this adorable pair of chairs. I love the shape and detail of the backs and I just knew if I dug deep into my armoire of paint I would pull out the perfect color to accompany one of my favorite fabrics.

The first thing I did was remove the pads & rip off the tired old navy stripe fabric.  I saved one of the covers for a template, which I always like to do so I have an accurate measurement for the yardage I need for the new fabric.

After giving the chairs a good wipe down, I put on a nice even coat of "Fresh Mustard" by Country Chic Paint. Then I lightly sanded with 220 grit to smooth out any brush strokes, and topped them off with another coat of paint and a durable coat of Tough Coat to help protect against the daily wear & tear by these two (see exhibit "a" & "b").

I really think this color just screams - bright, bol...

You know when you see a piece of furniture and you just feel the need to buy it? Well, this charming table was priced right & has that french provincial curviness that everyone loves!  I think it's the perfect size for an entry table or a sofa table, actually now that I think about it, it would be so cute as a vanity in a powder bath as well!

I love being able to look past that extra glossy top coat and imagine the possibilities and I just knew that a couple coats of Country Chic Paint would do the trick!  I wanted a versatile color - one that's neutral but not boring so I chose "Rocky Mountain" All-In-One Decor Paint

(Click on the picture above for more inspiration using Country Chic Paint All-In-One Decor Paint)

I began by painting two even coats on the entire table & I lightly sanded with 220 grit in between coats.  When working with a smooth, sleek surface like this top, I really try to stretch the paint from one end to the other to avoid any unwanted brush strokes.  Sanding...

Hey Everyone,

It's been a little while, but the Salvage Sisters are back and ready for action.  We found this tall boy dresser in decent condition - besides the obvious, there was some good ol' 1980's contact paper stuck all over the drawer bottoms, but we saw past it's flaws & turned this functional piece of furniture into something fabulous!

We really think this piece is perfect for any space, whether it be in a kids bedroom, adult bedroom, or even in a mud room because it has such great storage.

We decided to go with Country Chic Paint in "Icicle".  It's such a soft, pale blue & adds a little touch of cheer to anything we grace with it's color! Check out the Country Chic Pinterest board for more inspiring photos using Icicle!

We started off with a single coat, lightly sanded with 220 grit to smooth out any brush strokes we may have created & then one more final coat.  To seal and protect it, we used Country Chic Paint Hemp Oil.

Oh! and a little something extra on...

I scanned Pinterest forever looking at ideas for my photo gallery that I was planning for my stair wall. I pinned and pinned and pinned and finally one day came up with the brilliant neurotic idea to have my kids cut out a pattern for each of the frames going on the wall. After they cut out all 57 (or so) of them, and I measured up the wall and marked my spots every 2’-0” I was ready to begin. Or was I?

Another couple of days went by and every time I walked up and down the stairs I was reminded of the challenge of creating the most perfect photo gallery ever! I slowly began to compile the tools that I needed until one evening I ran out of excuses and it was time to hammer in that first nail. The nail that would start it all, the center mark, the foundation, the big bullseye…I picked up my hammer, grabbed the nail and did it! Of course, I didn’t hit a stud (on the first one or any of them for that matter), but I didn’t care. I just k...

noun, plural Fahrenranches -

       1.  No such word, No other place like it! Our crazy home & life & family

Not so much a "ranch" per say, more like a family from the city that moved to an acreage and has to drive 20 minutes to the nearest Target.  We do not farm our land, we have no animals to milk or butcher - we have a few chickens, but the closest thing we have to livestock is a herd of cats. Which, is a whole new experience because we're not really even cat people.  But, I'm more of a cat person than a mouse person so we have 4 mice-catching kitties & we love them all.

When we committed to buying land my main concern was how far away from everything we were going to be.  I tested the drive to my favorite places (Target, Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx) and felt that I could live with the distance and now that we're out here, I can.  It's really not that bad. What I didn't think about when I committed to life in the count...

Happy 2016 everyone! Well, I've spent all sorts of time reading, studying, and obsessing over blogs but I'm never going to get my first post done if I never start. So here goes nothing don't judge- someday I'll come back and edit over all of this!

This time of year I really like to take a minute and catch my breath. I bust my butt working extra time before the holidays as a hairstylist trying to get everyone in to look their best, trying to catch some of the festivities going on around Denver, and of course enjoying time with family and friends that come to visit. December 26th I’m exhilarated and yet exhausted all at once! I have to get back into routine ASAP before I lose my mind and the little bit or “normalcy” that I can usually maintain. Kids are back to school now, my husband and I are back to our ordinary work schedules and Christmas chaos is somewhat back in it’s bins and shoved in the basement (We’ll get back to that later).

So, lets start off by talking about ways to get organi...
